About The Author

I go by "Anna May Belle" and I've been role-playing for nearly twenty years.  I first got my start in a children's Star Trek role playing group called the UFK (United Federation of Kids), and soon after became involved in an anime role-playing channel via IRC, called #BlueseedRPG on Dal.net.  My role-playing ventures since then have included Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, a wide variety of freeform RPG channels on Esper.net, and countless MMORPGs.  I have a passion for writing, creating original characters, and game-mastering my own scenarios and storylines for other players.

I sought to start this blog because I wanted to write about something that I feel passionate about and share my experiences, as well as the experiences that friends have related to me.

You can find out about some of my favorite OCs (original characters) below, whom I'll be referencing or using for examples throughout the blog down the road.

Masayu originally got her start in a Naruto RPG, as a ninja hailing from Suna.  She was originally a heavily scarred girl who had previously lost all four of her limbs in a disastrous battle.  Rather than conceding to live her life as a quadruple amputee, she commissioned the construction of four puppet limbs which she would learn to control as her own arms and legs.  Though her movements remained awkward and somewhat unsettling well into her teenage years, her inhuman agility and armory of weapons and poisons hidden within her limbs made her a dangerous opponent.

In the years since Masayu's original inception, I've played her in any number of other settings, with different levels of disability.  Any setting that allows for prosthetic limbs has made it easier to carry over her original form, but even in other settings, her scars and self-consciousness remain a key part of her personality.  However, Masayu is not a shy individual; she is exceedingly driven, and takes steps to cover her scars modestly, while still working or fighting toward her goals.

Kayou was my one of my first Gen3 characters, though her lineage had little to do with her personality and circumstances.  Kayou was born with a heart condition, and has spent several years of her life "living on borrowed time".  With her death looming, Kayou became a devout Buddhist, and sought to live her life with as few attachments as possible.

Through role-play, Kayou became one of my first great romances.  She eventually encountered Johnny, a cheerful boy who sought to chip away at her icy walls.  What she did not initially know was that he was a phoenix who had taken human form.  He offered her the gift of immortality, which she initially sharply rejected; having spent so much time contemplating her mortality, the idea of living was almost too outlandish for her.  However, the two grew close, and eventually fell in love.  Kayou accepted Johnny's offer of immortality, and the two happily chose to spend their eternity together.

Tsukimi was originally devised as a Naruto Gen2, who was made invalid long before the Naruto Gaiden created their own second generation; she was written before the Naruto timeskip ever occurred, and in the canon timeline, her father didn't make it to the end of the manga.  Still, her classical tastes and tsundere personality make her fun to play, and she's been translated into any number of other settings.

At her core, Tsukimi is a bookish girl with a taste for traditional Japanese culture, making her something of a closet reki-jo.  She often has a chip on her shoulder, and a general distrust for most people until they give her reason to believe otherwise.

One of my first heavy-research characters, Nowaki was created as a gifted but feral child.  Originally an enemy that was defeated by the characters of an RPG, she was later taken in by them.  Throughout the course of role-play, Nowaki had to be taught by other characters to walk upright, speak, read, and respect normal human social norms.  Under stress, she still tended to revert back to her baser instincts.

Nowaki was also my first clearly identified demisexual character, meaning she felt no physical attraction to others until after she had already formed a strong emotional bond with them.  Though she started as an experiment, and remains a difficult character to play "from scratch" in new settings, Nowaki remains a classic favorite of mine.
